Common questions

What does it mean if an employer is on this list?

They hold a current Home Office sponsor licence, so they can legally sponsor workers on the visa routes shown. It does not mean they are hiring right now, or that your application will succeed. It means sponsorship is possible there.

Where does the data come from?

Straight from the official GOV.UK "Register of licensed sponsors: workers" file. We download the latest version every day, tidy it up, and add industry tags so you can search it. Nothing is edited by hand.

What does the A rating mean?

An A rating means the employer is in good standing with the Home Office. A B rating means they have been downgraded and are working through an action plan. Employers on a B rating usually cannot issue new certificates until they get back to an A.

What does the red warning next to an employer mean?

It means Companies House records something about that company worth knowing before you apply. A sponsor licence is a permission, not a health check, so a company being wound up can stay on the register for months.

The warnings are not all equally serious, which is why each one says what it found. "Liquidation" or "Strike-off proposed" is grave. "Accounts overdue" is often just paperwork at a company that is trading perfectly well. Read the label, not the colour.

We match employers to Companies House by name, so a warning is not proof and an employer without one is not vetted. Where one name is held by two different companies and we cannot tell which is the employer, we show no warning at all rather than guess. Every warning links straight to the official Companies House record. Check it there before you decide anything.

How do the industry tags work?

The official list does not include industries, so we work them out from each employer's name. They are there to help you search, not official data. Always check the details with the employer.
